Soul vs Ego

Ego vs. Soul – Can You Differentiate Between Them?

Do you know who is whispering to you what to do?

We are all familiar with the idea of the process of making decisions. A lot of them are on a daily basis, on a small scale, but some of them can be a life change decision that can shift our life dramatically one way or the other. The bigger the decision the bigger our fear.

Let’s see together some daily small decision:

  • Should I buy this specific shoe brand or a different one?
  • Should I eat a salad or sandwich for launch?
  • Should I buy this pasta sauce or the other one or perhaps both?

We are making so many decisions almost every single moment and most of them are easy or on autopilot mode.

Here and there we have some on a weekly/monthly basis on a medium scale such as;

  • Should we book a vacation to Florida or Mexico?
  • Should we invest this month in the house or save the money?

This will take perhaps a little bit more time to figure this out, but again we can handle it and have a calculated decision. We can hear our inner voice.

Now, when we need to make a BIG decision, that potentially can change our life, we get stuck and not able to choose. Of course, not all of us but most of us have that feeling. We are debating back and forth. This decision is risky, unfamiliar and it is taking us from our comfort zone. Life change or Big decision can be:

  • Should we accept the relocation offer and relocate our family to another country?
  • Our child needs surgery, should we do it with this specific doctor or another one?
  • Should I stay working with the company or to leave and open my own business that I always wanted?

Do you get what I’m talking about?

Each one of them can change our life dramatically and/or our family members’ life.

So many unknown factors, so many potential risks. The feeling is that the earth is shaking beneath our feet. In these types of decisions, it is crucial to understand, are we making our decision based on Ego inspired action or Soul inspired action?

If we took a decision and it all went wrong most likely we decided based on our Ego and not based on our Soul.

Coming back to this basic question- How can we differentiate between our Ego to our Soul?

How can we know that what we feel or what we hear in our inner voice is Ego or our higher self or so to speak our Soul?

In order to tell the difference, we first need to know a few things about our Ego.

Our Ego is our primary compass that is responsible for our safety. The Ego is always striving to keep us safe, so when new things are showing up that the Ego considers dangerous to us he will try to protect us and himself by doing anything in his power to avoid them and not take them into consideration.

If you think about it, the Ego is not a bad thing, he is helping us and protecting us on a primal level, physically and emotionally, and at the same time maintaining our self-esteem. On the other hand, our soul doesn’t care, so to speak, about our physical safety. Our soul is eternal and as such knows that nothing will happen to him.

The soul had already a few lifetimes and will have more in the future. The Soul’s focus is only to experience this lifetime and to express itself.

The Soul doesn’t think anything is bad – poverty or wealth can be the same. Let’s take poverty as an example- The Soul wants to experience it and try to express itself in this situation, however, the Ego has a perception of “bad” on poverty and will try to protect us from it.

The “good and bad” are human labels that the Soul ignores and equally wants to experience. The Ego on the other hand will take the safe route, most likely, against our Soul. The Ego as I mentioned earlier, is striving to protect us and in many cases is also protecting us from our greatness. The Ego doesn’t like changes in general. He prefers the known, the familiar even if the known and the familiar are not the best for us.

Another Ego sign is immediate gratification and loudness. The Ego is very loud and opinionated and provides us all the why’s. Why should or why shouldn’t you do something depending on the situation that he is directing. The Ego likes to be in charge and navigate his way.

The Soul, on the other hand, is very quiet and whispering you gently the way. It’s never loud, nor it provides you many Why’s or at all. Most of the time it gives you no reason why you should act in a certain way. You just feel the call, you just know that you want it or not, depending on the situation, without any explanation behind it.

This is the place that you doubt and question yourself. You find it hard to believe in it. You don’t get a list of Whys you should or shouldn’t do something, just a gentle whisper that makes you feel not certain doubt, and uncomfortable with yourself.

There is no wonder that most of us listen to our Ego’s. It is loud, we are familiar with it, we resonate with the rationalized list of Why’s that he is providing us, and we like immediate gratification as the Ego. For the most part, it’s fine to follow the Ego, he will protect us as we already know.

The problem with following it with all our decisions that it will keep our lives the same way.

Remember what I mentioned earlier? The Ego doesn’t like changes.

I’m guessing that you want to change your life for the better. You want to express your divinity and reach your greatness, but it won’t happen with your Ego inspired action.

In order to live your life with your Soul purpose, expressing your gifts with joy and having abundance in any life area of your life, you need to listen to your Soul’s call.

That quiet, whispering call, that is knocking in your heart gently but persistently.
